Collection description
This study evaluated the introduction of minimum unit pricing (MUP) for alcohol in Scotland, examining impacts on alcohol-related harms, consumption, and stakeholder and public perceptions. A controlled natural experiment compared Scotland (intervention) with the north of England (control) using difference-in-difference analyses. Quantitative data included 23,455 emergency department attendees across four hospitals and 15,218 sexual health clinic participants, collected in repeated waves before and after MUP implementation. Qualitative data comprised 30 professional stakeholder interviews and 24 focus groups with 105 young and heavy drinkers from affluent and deprived communities, conducted pre- and post-implementation, with some participants taking part longitudinally. Data capture includes survey responses, FAST scores, and detailed transcripts of stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions. This dataset provides a comprehensive resource for researchers examining alcohol policy effects, behavioural responses, and stakeholder perspectives within a real-world policy intervention. This dataset is anonymised.
