Collection description

GoWell was a mixed-methods research and learning programme that examined the impact of investment in housing, regeneration, and neighbourhood renewal on the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities in Glasgow. Running from 2005 to 2019, the study involved 15 main communities and six additional East End neighbourhoods, selected based on the type and timing of regeneration and housing mix. Interventions included housing improvements, transformational regeneration, resident relocation, creation of mixed-tenure communities, changes in housing type, and community engagement. GoWell investigated outcomes across four domains: residential and neighbourhood conditions, social and community outcomes, empowerment, and health and wellbeing, with health conceived as resulting from positive changes in the other domains. The programme conducted four repeat cross-sectional community surveys, achieving approximately 6,000 interviews in Wave 1 (2006), 4,700 in Wave 2 (2008), 4,100 in Wave 3 (2011), and 3,500 in Wave 4 (2015), alongside a longitudinal panel of residents followed across waves. Qualitative components included interviews and focus groups with residents, housing managers, and stakeholders, capturing insights on neighbourhood context, rehousing processes, community engagement, and perceived pathways from regeneration to health. Data collected include self-reported survey responses, longitudinal panel data, interview and focus group transcripts, and linked ecological and documentary sources, providing a rich resource for understanding how neighbourhood regeneration affects social and health outcomes over time. GoWell sub-studies; GoSchools, Mixed Tenure and Lived reality data are held within this dataset. This data is anonymised.
