Collection description
The dataset contains biodiversity and environmental data collected from the Sundarbans mangrove forest in Bangladesh.
The rows in the first column contains the plot (permanent sample plot, PSP) numbers. The remaining columns represent the:
> estimated values of the alpha, beta and gamma diversity measures (for q =1,2,& 3)
> environmental and biotic variables &
> latitude & longitude of the plots
Plot level raw species data can be collected upon request from the Bangladesh Forest Department (nirmal@bforest.gov.bd)

Tree (counts) and environmental data were collected from the 110 permanent sample plots (PSP, 0.2 ha each) in the Sundarbans. Nine soil samples were collected from each PSP. Then we measured soil sand, silt and clay percentages, salinity, pH, oxidation reduction potential (ORP), NH4, P, K, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu and sulphide concentrations. For determining the percentage of sand, slit and clay in soil, we used the hydrometer method (Klute et al., 1986). We measured soil salinity (as electrical conductivity) in a 1:5 distilled water:soil dilution (Hardie & Doyle, 2012) using a conductivity meter. Soil pH and oxidation reduction potential were measured in the field using soil pH and oxidation reduction potential meters. We followed the Kjeldahl method (Bremner & Breitenbeck, 1983) to determine soil NH4, and the molybdovanadate method (Ueda & Wada, 1970) to determine total P concentrations. Soil K, Mg, Fe and Zn concentrations were measured using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. |
