The Twenty-07 Study had 20 years of data across three different age cohorts, which provided a unique opportunity to explore physical activity patterns over time, their determinants and their relationship to a range of health outcomes. A range of analytical techniques may need to be employed for this research, for example, logistic regression, growth curve modelling, structural equation modelling and survival analysis. The broad aims of the studentship were to review the literature on the validity of self-report physical activity measures, the determinants of physical activity, patterns of physical activity over time and the relationship between physical activity and various dimensions of health; describe patterns of physical activity (trajectories) over time for each of the three cohorts; Investigate the demographic and social determinants of physical activity trajectories; Explore the relationships between physical activity and selected final health outcomes such as mental health indices, disability, grip strength, obesity, CVD risk factors and mortality.
