The data in this file compile the lists of national bank examiners included in the Annual Reports of the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, from 1902-1907, and then from 1916-1931. The data were hand collected from digital copies of the comptroller’s annual reports, which are available from the Federal Reserve Archival System for Economic Research (FRASER). For each set of examiners (1902-1907; 1916-1931), examiners were assigned a cohort number based on the year of their first appearance, to enable chronological tracking and calculation of examiner turnover before and after institution of fixed examiner salaries (1913). Additional data about examiner location and officer roles are also included, though these should be checked against original sources before use.
