README File: Judith Rideout Woman Writers' Networks in Spanish Magazines around 1900 Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA)Travelling Texts project (Project leader: Dr Henriette Partzsch) Funder Code: HERA-JRP-CE-FP-522 This dataset is a collection of the information found during archive work with Spanish magazines/newspapers between 1877-1910. Each worksheet references the archives for one particular magazine/newspaper (indicated by the tab title), except the worksheet 'Spiritist magazinesâ' which is an amalgamation of data from various publications (these publications being made clear within the worksheet itself). Each worksheet is an exhaustive study of the women writers found within each title, most of the data coming from the digitised archives of the BNE and the PVPH, but additional secondary data was also used for La Luz del Porvenir (paper archives at the Hemeroteca Municipal de Madrid were also studied, so records are complete from its first issue until May 1894), and El Album Ibero-Americano (which is the BNE archive plus additional data from the HMM and Chozas Ruiz-Belloso so that it comprises June 1890- Feb 1910). Pertinent biographical detail on each writer is given, as well details of the issue of the magazines in which they feature. Wherever these writers have been mentioned within the magazine is also stated, as my research was particularly interested in how these women were received by others, their place in literary culture, and the connections that they had with other writers. Due to the volume of data gleaned from El Album Ibero-Americano, the information is split over two worksheets, with the first worksheet referencing female contributors only, and second worksheet listing the women who were mentioned or quoted, but whose by-line does not actually feature in the magazine. Finally, there is a worksheet in which I have amalgamated all of the known data about the relationships between these women, which may be of use to people researching Spanish literary history of this period.
